[Hong Kong] New Bond Limited is overjoyed to announce an ambitious and heartfelt plan to breathe new life into the beloved Tai Pak Floating Restaurant. This cherished landmark has long been a beacon of Hong Kong’s vibrant maritime and cultural heritage, and we are committed to honouring its legacy through a transformative journey that intertwines passion, innovation, and community spirit.

As Hong Kong’s oldest and last remaining floating restaurant, the Tai Pak is steeped in stories and nostalgia, having served as a beloved gathering place where memories were made, friendships forged, and cultures celebrated. Though it has faced challenges of neglect and underutilisation in recent years, New Bond is dedicated to rekindling the love for this historic vessel - much like the timeless romance depicted in “Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing” (1955). By marrying the principles of adaptive reuse with the groundbreaking capabilities of digital twin technology, we aim to revitalise Tai Pak into a modern, sustainable destination that captures its unique charm and significance.

A Vision for a Joyful Future

Our vision for the adaptive reuse of Tai Pak is to create a dynamic, multi-purpose space that not only pays homage to its storied past but also serves as a lively hub for community engagement, tourism, and innovation. Whether reimagined as a cultural museum, a floating event venue, or a modern dining and retail destination, this project will prioritize sustainability, accessibility, and cultural preservation, ensuring that it resonates with the heart and soul of Hong Kong.

[Mr. TY Wong, Executive Director of New Bond Limited] expresses his enthusiasm: “The Tai Pak Floating Restaurant is more than just a structure; it’s a symbol of Hong Kong’s cultural identity and maritime heritage. With the power of digital twin technology, we’re not just reimagining its future; we’re crafting a legacy that inspires, educates, and serves our community for generations to come.

Community and Environmental Impact

This project is a testament to Hong Kong's commitment to sustainability and adaptive reuse, minimising the need for new construction and reducing environmental waste. By revitalising an existing structure, New Bond is demonstrating how urban innovation and heritage preservation can go hand in hand.

New Bond invites stakeholders, community members, and investors to join us on this transformative journey, ensuring that the Tai Pak Floating Restaurant continues to be a cherished landmark for future generations.

Together, let’s preserve the past, celebrate the present, and shape a future filled with joy and admiration for one of Hong Kong’s most iconic treasures.

Through this innovative technology, Lenovo has created a highly detailed digital model of Tai Pak, enabling our teams to:

  • Preserve Historical Integrity: Meticulously map and document the restaurant’s intricate architecture, ensuring that the essence of its cultural identity remains intact.

  • Maximize Sustainability: Simulate energy-efficient systems to reduce environmental impact while modernising the structure for long-term viability.

  • Enhance Structural Integrity: Identify and reinforce areas of the restaurant’s ageing infrastructure, ensuring its safety and longevity.

  • Experiment with New Uses: Virtually test various adaptive reuse scenarios, such as converting the space into a floating cultural museum, event venue, or innovative dining experience.
